Emma Foster

Fine Artist and Gilder

Emma Foster is a Contemporary British Artist, Shortlisted for the Almenara Art Prize 2024, a member of Art Can, finalist for Visual Art Open 2021, winning the painting category. She was also one of the 12 winners of London Art Open prize in 2020. Her work could be described as Magical Realism, with strong Symbolic connotations. She began to paint in 2018 after her son, the last of her four children was born. Emma then decided that she would explore her artistic abilities, which eventually drew her to figurative work. It was also the beginning of her journey into the craft of gold leaf gilding, led by her admiration of the artist Gustav Klimt.

Emma lives in a seaside town in South East Essex with her three youngest children and her husband.

“If you have any interest in any of the works you see on my site, any questions, or have a commission idea you would love to see realised, please don’t hesitate to contact me”

Video Clip of the Making of ‘The Beginning’

This quick reel that I’ve taken from my Instagram Account shows a little of the process of how this painting was created. Each piece is completely individual, and each piece may be created slightly differently, using whatever technique that I feel would work with my goal for that artwork.

I will be creating a few videos, explaining techniques such as gilding, in various forms, making of gesso from ancient recipes, making of oil paints and egg tempera paints, and many painting techniques shortly, do check in!
